Many Firemen Required to Show Up at The Muhlenberg on Atlantic Ave.

8,000 firemen showed up today to help one woman out of The Muhlenberg. The building did not appear to be on fire or smoking. However, 25 firetrucks were sure to take up all of the right lane between 4th Ave and Nevins st on Atlantic Ave. None of the firemen seems to mind the flames on the side of Hank’s.

Music and Arts coming to YWCA [Atlantic+3rd Ave]

I just noticed some new banner on the YWCA building and now it’s confirmed that they’ve secured a renter for the location – Roulette Intermedium Inc.
Interestingly, the article points out other possible tenants that scoped the place: “Duane Reade, McDonald’s and a BBQ restaurant; along with gourmet stores, medical groups and even a Buddhist organization”.

“Gourmet stores” would have been nice; There’s nowhere to fucking shop around here!

Ex-Ace Liquors not a Pharmacy but a Deli? [Atlantic Ave]

In a strange twist, considering the copious amounts of newly installed “Pharmacy” signs, it looks Ace Liquors is going to be a deli. I only see three refrigerators in the back, which makes me fear the worst: No beer!

Blue Marble’s Atlantic Ave Store is Closing

To make the ending of summer even less sweet, Blue Marble is closing, leaving another hole in the Atlantic Ave storefronts. Us residents are now left wondering if the void will ever be filled and when it is filled, will it just be a god-damned dentist office or car insurance place? We need food!

p.s. How the hell did they grab a storefront for $1750 a month?

The city was going to close the public pool at Douglass/Degraw (although not technically Boerum Hill like the article claims). I think some protests and hot days convinced them otherwise.

“I can get my goggles and go underwater!” Wendy announced.

Ex-Ace Liquors Becoming a Pharmacy? [Atlantic Ave]

We live very close to Ace Liquors. So, when it closed we were pretty sad. However, the hopes of something cool opening up was in our minds. Yesterday, we saw the new sign which is probably more depressing than the closure of Ace Liquors. The terribly lame, misplaced, weird pharmacy on Nevins seems to be expanding and/or taking over the ex-Ace Liquors store front. There’s a Walgreen’s 1 block away. I’m still stumped how Ace went out of business in this neighborhood…

Ex-Ace Liquors Rented, Being Renovated [Atlantic Ave.]

Ace Liquors was on the corner of Nevins and Atlantic. See below for the only, really crappy shot I could get of the in-progress interior. No clue what their doing. Based on the floor and that platform, my guess is liquor store or mini-deli but I don’t know why they’d have to gut reno an existing liquor store to make a similar looking one.
